SHIVA MANASA PUJA
Shiva Mānasa Pūjā is a special text for Mental Worship of Shiva written by legendary Hindu saint and philosopher of 9th century - Śankara-āchārya.
Mānas means Mind in Sanskrit, and hence Mānasa Pūjā we translate as Mental Worship (of Shiva). Pūjā is a form of deva-worship in Hinduism; it encompasses elements of devotion, deep prayer, meditation and offerings to Deva. When Pūjā is performed externally – it may appear as a kind of devotional ritual – when we offer flowers, fire, water and other symbolic treasures to the Iṣṭā-deva as offering, service and purification of our sincere heart and dedication.
In Shiva Mānasa Pūjā we concentrate on our inner, mental worship, attitude and purification. We imagine all treasures of the world and in our mind offer them as a gift to Shiva. We realize deep inside that our body is now a purified temple of the Lord, our vital breath is in harmony with the universe, and we ask to god Shiva to forgive all our offences and omissions.

शिवमानसपूजा
रत्नैः कल्पितमासनं हिमजलैः स्नानं च दिव्याम्बरं नानारत्नविभूषितं मृगमदामोदाङ्कितं चन्दनम्।
जातीचम्पकबिल्वपत्ररचितं पुष्पं च धूपं तथा दीपं देव दयानिधे पशुपते हृत्कल्पितं गृह्यताम्॥१॥
ratnaiḥ kalpitam-āsanaṃ himajalaiḥ snānaṃ ca divyāmbaraṃ,
nānā-ratna-vibhūṣitaṃ mṛgamadāmodāṅkitaṃ candanam |
jātī-campaka-bilvapatra-racitaṃ puṣpaṃ ca dhūpaṃ tathā,
dīpaṃ deva dayānidhe paśupate hṛt-kalpitaṃ gṛhyatām ||1||
I offer you mentally, a throne studded with precious stones, a bath with Gaṅgā-water,
celestial robes adorned with many gems, sandalwood paste mixed with musk to anoint your body,
jasmine and Champā flowers and Bilva leaves, burning incense and a shining flame.
O! Self-effulgent Lord! Ocean of compassion! Lord of all living beings! May you receive what I offer with all my heart (mind). (1)
सौवर्णे नवरत्नखण्डरचिते पात्रे घृतं पायसं भक्ष्यं पचविधं पयोदधियुतं रम्भाफलं पानकम्।
शाकानामयुतं जलं रुचिकरं कर्पूरखण्डोज्ज्वलं ताम्बूलं मनसा मया विरचितं भक्त्या प्रभो स्वीकुरु॥२॥
sauvarṇe navaratna-khaṇda-racite pātre ghṛtaṃ pāyasaṃ,
bhakṣyaṃ pañca-vidhaṃ payodadhiyutaṃ rambhāphalaṃ pānakam |
śākānāmayutaṃ jalaṃ rucikaraṃ karpūra-khaṇdojjvalaṃ
tāmbūlaṃ manasā mayā viracitaṃ bhaktyā prabho svīkuru ||2||
I offer you mentally with great devotion, pāyasam made with ghee (clarified butter) in a golden bowl inlaid with nine precious stones,
the five kind of food made with milk and curd, many vegetables,
fruit-salad with bananas, clean and tasty water, betel leaf and nut mixed with camphor.
May you receive them, O Lord! (2)
छत्रं चामरयोर्युगं व्यजनकं चादर्शकं निर्मलं वीणाभेरिमृदङ्गकाहलकला गीतं च नृत्यं तथा।
साष्टाङ्गं प्रणतिः स्तुतिर्बहुविधा ह्येतत्समस्तं मया सङ्कल्पेन समर्पितं तव विभो पूजां गृहाण प्रभो॥३॥
chatraṃ cāmarayor-yugaṃ vyajanakaṃ cādarśakaṃ nirmalaṃ
viṇā-bheri-mṛdaṅgakāhalakalā-gītaṃ ca nṛtyaṃ tathā |
sāṣtāṅgaṃ praṇatiḥ stutir-bahuvidhā hyetat-samastaṃ mayā
saṅkalpena samarpitaṃ tava vibho! pūjāṃ gṛhāṇaṃ prabho! ||3||
With my saṅkalpa (volition), I offer you a pair of fans, an umbrella, and a spotless mirror,
musical performance of Viṇā, Bheri, and Mṛdaṅga, followed by a dance performance,
my sāṣtaṅga-namaskāram, and this manifold eulogy.
O Lord! May you please receive this worship! (3)
आत्मा त्वं गिरिजा मतिः सहचराः प्राणाः शरीरं गृहं पूजा ते विषयोपभोगरचना निद्रा समाधिस्थितिः।
सञ्चारः पदयोः प्रदक्षिणविधिः स्तोत्राणि सर्वा गिरो यद्यत्कर्म करोमि तत्तदखिलं शम्भो तवाराधनम्॥४॥
ātmā tvaṃ girijā matiḥ sahacarāḥ prāṇāḥ śarīraṃ gṛhaṃ,
pūjā te viṣayopabhoga-racanā nidrā samādhi-sthitiḥ |
sañcāraḥ padayoḥ pradakṣiṇa-vidhiḥ stotrāṇi sarvā giraḥ,
yad-yat-karma karomi tat-tad-akhilaṃ śambho! tavārādhanam ||4||
My body is your temple. My mind (Girijā) is wedded to you. My vital breath (five organs of action and my physiological functions) are your attendants.
My body is your abode. All the experiences of my senses I offer you as worship. In my sleep, I remain resolved in you.
My walk is your circumambulation. Whatever I say is hymns in praise of you.
Whatever I do is a form of worship unto you, O Lord! (4)
करचरणकृतं वाक्कायजं कर्मजं वा श्रवणनयनजं वा मानसं वापराधम्।
विहितमविहितं वा सर्वमेतत्क्षमस्व जय जय करुणाब्धे श्रीमहादेव शम्भो॥५॥
kara-caraṇa-krtaṃ vāk-kāyajaṃ karmajaṃ vā,
śravaṇa-nayanajaṃ vā mānasaṃ vāparādham |
vihitam-avihitaṃ vā sarvam-etat kṣmasva,
jaya jaya karuṇābdhe śrī-mahādeva-śambho! ||5||
Whatever omissions and commissions I have performed with my hands, legs, speech, sense organs,
organs of action, hearing, sight, thoughts, whatever I may have done with reference to enjoined (vihitam) or prohibited (avihitam) actions,
please forgive them all, O! Lord Mahādeva! O! Ocean of compassion! (5)
इति श्रिमच्छङ्कराचार्यविरचिता शिवमानसपूजा समाप्ता॥
Iti śrīmacchaṅkarācāryaviracitā śivamānasapūjā samāptā||
